Everybody who grew up in Wallace and is of a certain age remembers the Dairio on HWY 117. It was an iconic gathering place. I captured it in its last days as our little town was growing and changing and this setting for so many memories was about to disappear.
My first big sale, as a member of the Long Leaf Arts and Crafts Guild housed in the Wallace Depot blew me away! Without hesitation, Nancy Perry Johnson of Raleigh bought the original painting. To say that I was thrilled is an understatement.
I love to know that a piece of MY art is hanging on a wall in someone else's home. I even get to visit this one occasionally.
The Dario was my first real success as an artist, and I've sold quite a few prints over the years. I wrote a poem about the Dairio and the inevitability of change - "Boomer's Reality Check." You can find it posted in my blog.
